Donor day

We start our blog with the message Donate and share life! The World Health Organization (WHO) has designated June 14 as World Blood Donor Day. Through the commemoration of this day, WHO has a dual objective, on the one hand, to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation, and on the other, to acknowledge the important work done by all blood donors.

Through this initiative, it is intended to make citizens aware so that the act of donating blood does not become an isolated fact that we do from time to time in our life. Attempts are made to encourage the population to regularly and periodically commit to donating blood.

Through this post we want to contribute, with a “grain of sand”, to foster interest and awareness of voluntary blood donation:

Why should you be a blood donor?

Hospitals often have blood reserves, but they are often on alert due to a shortage of resources or because they have an expiration date, which requires the collaboration of the population through the media.

Despite the many scientific advances it is impossible to manufacture blood, can only be obtained through liquid tissue: altruistic donation.

Many lives are saved through a blood transfusion. One person can save up to three lives!

We must become aware of this small act that is the blood donation, because we can help many people who live a critical situation. We do not know when we, our family or friends may be in a delicate situation that requires a transfusion.

In this regard, we want to share these data from the Spanish Federation of Blood Donors:

Of the total of possible donors in Spain, only 5% donate blood.

The largest number of active donors are between the ages of 31 and 45.

The main medical areas for which blood is used are: oncology, surgical interventions, and obstetrics and gynecology.

Here’s how to become a blood donor:

They can be donors all the people of age, who surpass the 50 kilos of weight and they are of good health, in general. A man can donate blood up to 4 times a year, a woman, a maximum of 3.

What is the blood donation? It is a simple and quick process:

  • Fill in the medical questionnaire.
  • Medical examination.
  • Extraction of blood.
  • Refreshment for the donor. As you can read, it is a simple and quick process that can save lives. From here, we encourage you to become one of the family of blood donates. Donate and share life!
